Update: On March 11, 2024 the Town Council offically adopted the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan on a 5-2 vote. The Plan was presented to Town Council at their November 13, 2024 meeting. The final, adpoted Plan will be posted soon on the Town's website. We are pleased to report that the Wakefield Traffic Advisory Committee recommended, and the Town Council voted in favor of, several road safety improvments, including the expansion of safety zones around Wakefield public schools at its July 2023 meeting (watch here). The August 2023 Open Streets event at Lake Quannapowitt was a huge success with over 500 people taking advantage of expanded access to streets for rolling, walking and biking. We also had many kids (and a few adults) sharpen their biking skills at the Bike Rodeo! Many thanks to Wakefield Cable Access TV for participating and making this video!
The Mystic Highlands Greenway is an initiative led by MAPC and Senator Jason Lewis to connect the town centers, parks, transit and regional trail corridors of Malden, Melrose, Wakefield, Stoneham and Reading. Safe Streets Working Group and the Town of Wakefield are part of a coalition working hard to get this done.
