Here are some upcoming town discussions where you can share your thoughts and make Wakefield safer and more welcoming:
Friday, July 26th - Traffic Advisory Committee will be discussing the Miriam Street Application for Traffic Calming based on the 2021 Traffic Calming Policy. Meeting starts at 8:30am on Zoom. Agenda.
Thursday, July 31st - The Town Council is holding a public forum seeking community input for the 40A - MBTA Communities Zoning proposal. As a MBTA community, Wakefield is required under state law to have at least one zoning district of reasonable size in which multi-family housing is permitted as of right and meets other criteria set forth in the statute, including being within 0.5 miles of public transit. Meeting is in-person at the Public Safety Building and on Zoom. Agenda.
On March 11, 2024 the Town Council adopted the Plan on a 5-2 vote. We want to recognize the combined efforts of the Council members that voted for it, and the Director of Economic Development (Erin Kokinda) and Town Engineer (Bill Renault) for their key roles in drafting the Plan. We also want to thank all the members of Safe Streets Wakefield that contributed their volunteer time to support adoption of the Plan.
Safe Streets Wakefield is an Alliance partner with the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School program. We have worked with local schools, town government, and the state to encourage walk audits and infrastructure improvements around our 6 Wakefield schools, including an audit of Farm Street and Woodville elementary in February 2021.
